    The “truth about diamonds” is that they are a worthless stone. The world’s supply of diamonds actully is enormous, but is kept artifically low - most of them are sequestered away in a vault by the diamond cartel, which is essentially a monopoly - in order to inflate prices. If all of the diamonds were released into the marketplace, they would be as inexpensive as cut glass! Brilliant marketing tactics have convinced the public that diamonds are rare (not true), and that a used diamond is worth very little, inflating the percieved value even more.
